North America

Although the Norse had explored along the coastlines North America c. 1000 A.D., the discovery of America is usually credited to Christopher Columbus in 1492 B.C. His discovery took place in an attempt to find a quicker route to Asia from Europe. Giovanni da Verrazzano and Jacques Cartier are also well known explorers of North America.
