Many famous classical composers lived during the 1800s. Each one has a different story, but all are fascinating. Beethoven was mostly deaf when he composed some of his most famous pieces; Wagner experienced political exile and debt; Chopin, despite of his fame now, only performed about 30 times in his life; and Tchaikovsky was the first Russian composer to be made famous throughout the world.

Any state that could drive off the nomads and fill the land with tax-paying peasants would expand its power enormously. In 1500–1800 this land and its people fell to Russia.

The Vikings were a seafaring people who raided, traded, explored and settled as far east as Constantinople and the Volga River in Russia and as far west as Iceland, Greenland and even North America during the 8-11th centuries. The Vikings traveled in wooden longships with wide, shallow hulls which allowed them to navigate through rough seas and shallow rivers.
