The Crimean War lasted from October of 1853 to February of 1856. The war began as Russia fought against the Ottoman Empire in order to protect the rights of Orthodox Christians. Eventually, Russia lost to the alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, Britain, and Sardinia. Fun fact: the Crimean War was one of the first wars to be extensively recorded through reports and photographs. The public, especially in Britain, was kept up to date on the day by day progression of the war.

The Crimean War map includes a colorful labeled teacher’s map and an unlabeled student map that the child can label and color.

The Mongol Empire existed during the 13th and 14th centuries, and was the largest contiguous land empire in human history. Genghis Khan proclaimed himself ruler of all Mongols in 1206. The empire grew rapidly under his rule and continued under the rule of his descendants, who sent out invasions in every direction.

After the division of the Roman Empire into two halves, Western and Eastern, the western half was sacked by Barbarian tribes and obliterated. The eastern half, however, continued to thrive and prosper. The old Roman Empire eventually became known as the Byzantine Empire and was ruled strongly by new leadership, Emperor Justinian the most famous of all.

The Byzantine Empire map includes a colorful labeled teacher’s map and an unlabeled student map that the child can label and color.

Ancient Europe, with the exception of the classical realm of Rome and Greece, was a wild and uncivilized place, populated by tribes of Celts, Slav and Avars. Later, Germanic and southwest Asian groups would grow in domination and take down the massive Roman Empire.
