British rule over India is most commonly attributed to the British victory in the Battle of Plassey in 1757. The British thus gained control of Bengal. For the next 100 years, the British continued to gain control of more parts of India, and the British East India Company began to function more as a political administration and less as a trading company. The Indian Rebellion of 1857 led to the 1858 dissolution of the British East India Company.
The India Under the Rule of the British East India Company map includes a colorful labeled teacher’s map and an unlabeled student map that the child can label and color.
