What do you think now?

August 20, 2009 by Terri Leave a reply »

We are conducting a survey this week, asking our customers how they like our new website.  Well, we are certainly getting mixed reviews, although the majority of comments have been extremely positive.  However, there are certain themes that kept coming up that gave us the nudge to “redecorate,” so to speak, because we certainly want you all to feel comfortable in our living room online.  We can’t tell you how grateful we are for your feedback!

So here is the latest update to the website:

http://www.kqpublishing.org

What do you think?  Please post your comments.  And if you haven’t taken our survey yet, you can do so here.  You’ll receive a 20% discount to use on our website for answering the 9 or 10 questions that we posed there.  Here’s the link:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dEszclAxd19oYXBKRDlqQm9iaU9LcFE6MA

Here is a quick summary of the results so far…

  • 17% couldn’t tell that the new website was really us and 13% were not sure, so we changed the color scheme and added the old logo back in.  70% recognized us right off the bat.
  • 88% said that the new website made them want to stick around and explore further.  12% said that they wanted to click the “back” button right away.  We hope that the revised look has helped those 12% because we wouldn’t want to lose you!
  • Overwhelmingly the favorite feature on the new website is the navigation buttons and drop-down menus.  Other favorites were the article and product of the month buttons.
  • Only 5% were turned off by our newsletter sign-up form.  63% liked it and the remaining 32% had various things to say about it, usually something along the lines of “it is what it is.”
  • Best of all, 92% said that they were likely or very likely to recommend our website and resources to their friends.  Yay!  We are so humbled and thrilled with this response.

One of the main criticisms that we received about the original new website (that we have since revised in color scheme, header, photos and other cosmetic issues) is that it was too generic, cheap, even “bubble gummy”.  So, we’ve added more “old world” charm, product images, original logo and additional information to make the site more distinctive… more US.  Do you think we have achieved that goal?

Another complaint is that it took way too long for the catalog to load.  Well, the original file was 9MB so no wonder.  We’ve reduced the size of the file to 2.5MB so that will help the majority of visitors to open and read the catalog, which is hyperlinked by the way.

So, what do you think now?

Please comment here and tell us what you think (if you have already taken the survey).  We are dying to know if we have made a positive difference and addressed most of the issues that concerned you.

Thanks so much!

Now to revise the blog and twitter pages to coordinate.  We’ll get there…

    LOVE it! Awesome job!!!

  3. Michel says:

MUCH improved! Love the “flavor” of it.

  4. Krystin says:

Ooh, the new updates are GREAT! It definitely looks more like “you” at Knowledge Quest. Yeah!

  5. Julie C. says:

It is SO MUCH better! It just seems like the old site, but updated. I wouldn’t have even noticed the change in URL (perhaps I should?). The newsletter sign up box is much better - visually and the text.

The wording about sample pages isn’t so “in your face” now. ;-)

One picky thing for me - the horizontal nav bar, when moused over, is sort of weird loading from the bottom to the top. It messes with my “very visual” brain. ;-) The text on the submenus is a bit hard to read - it’s too “fine”. It’d be better for me, visually, to have more of a distinction between one that’s highlighted and one that isn’t.

Adding a link above the catalog, as well as the ability to click on the thumbnail is *much* improved.

The Facebook icon is much better than the way it was linked before.

All in all, it’s amazing to see input I had changed. :-)

I cannot find a link to the website in this blog so it will be a day or so before I can look it up to give you more feedback. It sounds like you listened well to the things I wrote about before!

  7. Tammy says:

Much better! I see some of the old site again. Thanks!

  8. Laurie says:

Oh - there it is! And yes, it is absolutely beautiful! I still miss the phone number on the home page, but oh well, no one is doing that anymore, are they? Thanks so much for listening!

  9. Amy says:

    Love the changes.

  10. Sue says:

Wow, I love the “new, new” site! The color and images fit so much better for you guys. It is easy to figure out who you are and the slogan is great! I have only positive things to say about it!

  11. Shannon says:

Wow!! I was very hesitant to be honest, but I am so excited to see your new-new look. What a beautiful blending of the awesome navigation and the rich colors of old maps. It is distinctive, unique and makes me want to dive right in and explore. Great job!!

  12. Tina says:

I LOVE this new layout! The color scheme and ease of use is soooooo much better than the “beta” version! It is so nice when owners of sites and businesses listen to their customers! I can’t wait to explore the entire site!

  13. tracyq says:

Great job! I love the layout, and the look! It’s pleasant to the eye, and pretty easy to use, which is very important for busy homeschooling people! :-)
    Well done!

  14. I was one who took the survey and liked the site you had but I have to agree, this looks even better! The color change and graphics gives a softer feel and is more distinctive to your company. Love it!

  15. M says:

Yes! Much better–it looks like “you” again.

  16. Babs says:

Love the updates! So much more fresh and ‘now’ looking. Great job on the color schemes, too. The page pops now and attracts attention.

  17. niki says:

I have to admit, I liked the “old colors” but I most definitely like this new, revised look the best. Great job!

  18. Angie says:

I have to say that I’m really enjoying the new site now.

When I first received the email about it & went to check it out, I didn’t like it. Maybe it’s just cause of the change, but I went to it once & really only spent about 10 minutes on the site. I didn’t think I’d go back.

Since getting the email today about the changes, well I’ve spent the last hour on the site … I almost couldn’t pull myself away to comment on the blog!!! :) I’m VERY please with the changes & having the Knowledge Quest name on the site makes a difference too.

Thank you for making the changes & I look forward to visiting the site much more!

    Angie in KY

  19. Much better!
Do we need to sign up for the newsletter if we are already on your list?

  20. Renee says:

WOW! The old new site was OK. I really didn’t know what to say about it. This new site is fantastic. It just looks and flows much better. I like the colors and the graphics. This new new site makes me want to stick around and browse some.

    Great Job!

  21. jmdamantea says:

WOW!! It reads like a classic with the features of the future!! What a fantastic change from just last week. The catalog uploaded so much faster - so did the pages and they are a breath of fresh air!! I was so relaxed. The drop downs are also a great addition! You have done a wonderful job with the site and I actually look forward to return visits!

  22. Betsy Negley says:

I like the most recent changes. I agree, however, with the response about the drop-down windows. Bottom-up is very disconcerting to us visual people. But overall, the changes are very nice.

  23. Becca says:

Wow! Much better and now it represents your products. Well done. Thank you for taking the time to ask us for our opinion - it’s very clear that you care. May God bless you through all of the changes.

  24. Linda says:

Great job! Much better feel and I like the similar look from the old site. Keep up the good work.

  25. LivPurple says:

I love the new and improved look! I really like that both Knowledge Quest and Bramley Books are included in the header. The colors are much better and closer to the Old World look/feel most of us love (per comments read above).

I like that I can see most of your products in the products link, but I would love to see a page with absolutely everything you offer! I like to compare what I have with what I don’t have, and what I wish I had! : )

  26. cyndi says:

Looks great! Your logo at the top is much better than the apple!

  27. Brendalyn says:

This is amazingly better. It now reflects the excellence of the products you sell. You can see and are invited to click on products and links. It has the old world feel and lost the ps dull. The name thing is great too. Now I know that it is you and not someone else selling your stuff. I found myself clicking on products I already owned! I guess that is not hard to do when I have almost everything you sell :) Great job! Praying that it blesses your business!

  28. Anna says:

    It looks amazing!

  29. Susan says:

Terrific! Brown tones are so good for history/geography - I definitely felt like the changes give more of a “feel” for what your products are like - and they are simply terrific. Keep up the good work!
