What do you think now?

August 20th, 2009

We are conducting a survey this week, asking our customers how they like our new website.  Well, we are certainly getting mixed reviews, although the majority of comments have been extremely positive.  However, there are certain themes that kept coming up that gave us the nudge to “redecorate,” so to speak, because we certainly want you all to feel comfortable in our living room online.  We can’t tell you how grateful we are for your feedback!

So here is the latest update to the website:

What do you think?  Please post your comments.  And if you haven’t taken our survey yet, you can do so here.  You’ll receive a 20% discount to use on our website for answering the 9 or 10 questions that we posed there.  Here’s the link:

Here is a quick summary of the results so far…

  • 17% couldn’t tell that the new website was really us and 13% were not sure, so we changed the color scheme and added the old logo back in.  70% recognized us right off the bat.
  • 88% said that the new website made them want to stick around and explore further.  12% said that they wanted to click the “back” button right away.  We hope that the revised look has helped those 12% because we wouldn’t want to lose you!
  • Overwhelmingly the favorite feature on the new website is the navigation buttons and drop-down menus.  Other favorites were the article and product of the month buttons.
  • Only 5% were turned off by our newsletter sign-up form.  63% liked it and the remaining 32% had various things to say about it, usually something along the lines of “it is what it is.”
  • Best of all, 92% said that they were likely or very likely to recommend our website and resources to their friends.  Yay!  We are so humbled and thrilled with this response.

One of the main criticisms that we received about the original new website (that we have since revised in color scheme, header, photos and other cosmetic issues) is that it was too generic, cheap, even “bubble gummy”.  So, we’ve added more “old world” charm, product images, original logo and additional information to make the site more distinctive… more US.  Do you think we have achieved that goal?

Another complaint is that it took way too long for the catalog to load.  Well, the original file was 9MB so no wonder.  We’ve reduced the size of the file to 2.5MB so that will help the majority of visitors to open and read the catalog, which is hyperlinked by the way.

So, what do you think now?

Please comment here and tell us what you think (if you have already taken the survey).  We are dying to know if we have made a positive difference and addressed most of the issues that concerned you.

Thanks so much!

Now to revise the blog and twitter pages to coordinate.  We’ll get there…
